Become a member of the Nashville Doula Project!
The Nashville Doula Project is a volunteer group of middle-Tennessee women dedicated to the idea that all women undergoing medical treatment for adverse pregnancy outcomes deserves support that fosters safety and dignity.
Full-Spectrum Doula care embodies all work that defines a birth or postpartum Doula and applies this understanding to the entire pregnancy spectrum. Many women experience elective abortion, miscarriage, adoption or fetal anomaly throughout their reproductive lives.
Full-Spectrum Doula care focuses on the individual at crucial times before, during and immediately after a medical procedure involving unplanned reproductive outcomes. Medical professionals and supportive staff who work with women experiencing adverse pregnancy outcomes are unable to focus all efforts on the emotional needs of clients while preforming necessary job duties. A Doula working in this field is often times the only supportive person present for the woman going to a clinic or a hospital for treatment. A cornerstone to the care provided by the Nashville Doula Project is observing the privacy of all of the people connected to the experiences we are helping heal and will foster trust as we help guide women through a myriad of experiences.
Full-Spectrum Doulas take care of women who have these experiences and understand that they can be directly connected to the birth experience.
Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee (PPMET) is working with the Nashville Doula Project to offer training by theĀ Doula Project this summer to get us off the ground. We hope to build a base that can be trained by the women who created and run The Doula Project and in turn provide this care for PPMET clinic patients and beyond. Our group is in it’s preliminary stages and is looking for dedicated volunteers who are new to the birth community and trained birth/postpartum doulas alike who want to commit themselves to the process of building this group. We hope to build a group who after participating in the training, can provide this unique care to PPMET patients and anyone in the Nashville area who are in need of our services.
Through ongoing self-education, training and guidance, the Nashville Doula Project will provide this support in a professional and holistic manner to all that we touch.
The Nashville Doula Project plans on blogging and zining all of our experiences. We are accepting written pieces or art from those touched by pregnancy to be a part of our history on a rolling basis.
Nashville is in dire need of this care and we have the power and ability to bring it here. Are you with us?
